So my birthday isn't until later this month, but my wonderful husband informed me of what we are doing for my birthday. And this totally DID NOT come about by me calling him yesterday morning and telling him exactly what he could get me for my birthday if he didn't already have something clever up his sleeve...
I'm going to see "A Chorus Line"! EEEE! My nerdy show choir heart is all a flutter. Now, it's not Broadway in NYC but OKC will still get me jumping up and down and singing "One" and "Tits and Ass" and "At the Ballet". It will be amazing and magical. I think I have to whip out the old show choir videos from high school. (Yes, I regularly watch "Glee" and dance around the house during some songs.) My high school show choir did a medley of "A Chorus Line" and since then it has been one of my very very top fave muciscals of all time.
I've decided since it's "Royal Wedding Week" that it's also "Speak in a Pretentious Royal English Accent Week"...
I started this pretentious royal accent yesterday and I've already driven Sparky insane. I might have to be careful about this...
BUT, I just can't help myself.
The accent just comes out all on it's own. It's like I have an English accent turrets. It's boggling really. (Said to myself in an English accent). My thoughts are even in an English accent!
I guess it's my way of accepting the fact that I will not be walking down the isle this Friday morning toward Prince William. Royalty is over-rated anyway. Right? Besides, I've already found and married my King! (awww. Sorry, yes, I had to go there.)
Where does this fascination generate from? I do remember as a pubescent teen having a large poster of Prince William hanging on my average teenager bedroom wall. His shiny blond hair and dreamy royal blue eyes made me hopeful that someday he could be mine. Oh, the unrealistic thoughts that go through hormone changing teenage females' minds! And then I wondered something...since part of this royal fantasy of mine was more believable due to Prince William and me being so close in age, I wondered if pretty Kate Middleton had these same hopes and dreams as an awkward teen? I bet so. I hope so. I've convinced myself so.
This comparison and thought that Kate may have had a similar poster of a young teenage Prince William hanging on her own average teenager bedroom wall makes this upcoming Royal Wedding extra exciting...at least for me. Kate's appeal to most twenty-somethings (and probably most women in general) must be this teenage girl "some day my prince will come" commonality. Kate does not come from a royal bloodline, but rather than self-made millionaires...or is it billionaires? I think this "commoner" fact makes Kate more appealing and interesting. I love her class and how well she has managed "becoming" royal; however critical many others may be about how Kate has evolved.
Kate will be a beautiful bride. I hope they couple will have a long, love-filled, and happy life together. I will probably set my alarm early on Friday morning...5am CST to be exact, to try to catch a glimpse of the Royal Wedding before my 6am Barre 3 class. I might even have a cup of tea and biscuits (or crumpets?) and cheer out loud in an English accent...just sayin.
Do you have plans to watch the Royal Wedding? Am I the only crazy girl excited about this? Surely not.
And as I get all lovey dovey because of Royal English Accent week/Royal Wedding week, I share with you a great little song by the wonderfully talented (and British...) Adele. The song is "Daydreamer" and I thought it was very appropriate and fitting for this post and William and Kate's wedding. enjoy!
Now, if only I could convince Sparky to speak in a pretentious royal English accent too.
Being married to a competitive cyclist has it's pros and cons:
Pro: He's really fit
Con: He's really fit
Yup. They are one in the same. Sparky is always on the move and him and fitness are somewhat synonymous. Me? Well. Not so much.
So, since Sparky is quite the site to look at due to his fitness (in my personal opinion), I GUESS it's only fair that I at least try to be fit as well. AND because health it kind of important to life and one cannot be healthy without working out to some degree.
The problem I have with fitness is that I get bored very quickly. I have tried all kinds of activities to get in shape and also to stay in shape. I get bored and give up quickly. My list of activities goes on and on:
rock climbing
cycling
running
yoga
Insanity DVDs
P90X
Month health club memberships
personal trainers
blah blee blah blah
Sparky says I just need to find an activity that I LOVE. I enjoy all the above mentioned activities and dabble here and there when I'm in the mood for it, but none are really my go-to activity to get me energized and feeling incredibly amazing about myself.
Last month I discovered Barre3. I had read an article in the OKC Gazette about it prior to its opening and then my lovely neighbor mentioned last month that she was "obsessed"with it. DING! Light bulb! My new fitness experiment was born. February 28th was my first class at Barre3 OKC and, now, I too am OBSESSED and L.O.V.E Barre3. In the short month, I have already started to notice a difference in my abs, thighs, booty and calves...which are the areas that normally never transform! I always show in my arms, back, and shoulders as soon as I begin any type of workout program so those have definitely started to shape up nicely.
From the Barre3 main website:
Where ballet barre meets yoga and pilates. Develop the length of a dancer and the strength of an athlete with our highly effective 60-minute workouts. Each class follows a thoughtful sequence for fast body shaping results and long term postural benefits.
From the Barre3 OKC site:
The 3 in barre3 symbolizes balance, a core value of our business, practice and life. Our classes are designed to transform the body to one of equal balance, strength and flexibility. The company we are building is based on the notion that work is a balanced and integrated part of life.
I love Barre3 because although it is incredibly challenging, it's also low impact and almost anyone can do it! The instructors at Barre3 OKC make themselves aware of each individual and if anyone has specific injuries or areas that may be bothersome. Throughout the workout, the instructors will give options for each position for comfort in case of injuries and they are also so incredibly encouraging.
The biggest bonus is that I feel very comfortable at Barre3 OKC and the 60 minute workout doesn't drag out at all...it actually goes by fairly quickly! I think the music helps a lot to make it fun. I always find myself either bouncing a little to the music (which I probably shouldn't do! whoops!) or singing along (which I probably should do either! haha!)
Anyway, Sparky recently said, "I'm so glad you found something you love". And so am I.
One of my favorite songs I've heard throughout the workout is Alicia Keys' "Try Sleeping With A Broken Heart".... Enjoy!
This morning while doing the same old stuff, I got a trusty little music treat in my email. One of my girlfriends sent me a link to listen to Adele's new album titled "21" located on NPR. I'm an uber lover of all things NPR, so this little link was filled to the brim with excitement for me...I know...nerd alert much? Anyway, I had to share with you all too.
Adele's new album "21" is a fun surprise. Adele fan's created from her first album "19" are in for a very satisfying and dance in your seat musical experience. The first song "Rolling In The Deep" kicks off the album perfectly with her sultry voice combined with a nice beat...can't complain a bit about that.
You can either listen to the album in its entirety (which I recommend) or you can listen to individual tracks. The album is scheduled to be released in the US next week on February 22nd. Happy listening!
You should definitely check out her tiny desk concert while you're at it...as well as other tiny desk concerts on NPR.
Today was not the best day for me. I arrived home defeated and tired. But as soon as I listened to Florence and the Machine's "The Dog Days are Over" and I danced around the house with those four little buggers pictured above (with Sparky endearingly and oh so lovingly watching my spaziness)...I felt and continue to feel a gazillion times better.
So, I'm sharing the change in my mood and hoping it could possibly do the same for another.
Well, I have 50 minutes left in this day to post a blog. Since this month's theme is about my mood and life as it is right now, you will probably be getting a lot of posts about music that is representing my moods and life right now.
Sparky and I have been listening to a lot more music lately in preparation for the wedding. Music is already normally quite the fixture in our lives, but it's even more prominant now. Anytime I hear a song, I try to listen to every word and music note and emotion. Now, my listening is on steroids. We just finished watching a random movie on Comedy Central and the movie had a great song during a kissing scene. It's a song and artist that Sparky and I both knew and loved...but had forgotten.
Now that song is stuck in my head and I have no complaints about it. It might be wedding worthy somewhere.
ZEITGEIST. You have 31 days to try to capture the mood of your culture and your life as they exist right now.
Today, I want to capture my mood and life that exists rigt now with a song.
I'm actually going back a few years, but I know must of you will go, "oh, yeah" or "awww" or "ohhh" or ..."that's silly". You'll probably just click off and move on without any thought whatsover. However you choose to react, I'm in the mood for The Moldy Peaches' "Anyone Else But You" sung by Michael Cera and Ellen Page from the movie Juno. I just crack up at the thought of Michael Cera in his short yellow running shorts and Ellen Page walking around with the huge bottle of OJ. Plus, I love the words to the song.
Favorite line at the beginning: "You're a part time lover and a full time friend..."
So my friend/cousin, Bree, sent me this video yesterday. It's my future dream husband best friend, Justin Timberlake, and his close competition, Jimmy Fallon, for this honorable title doing a little hip hopitty rap. Bree thinks JT is her future husband, but she's totally WRONG. Anyway, the rapitty rap is so incredibly cute and funny! You musst watch the ENTIRE thing. (yes, you have to wait for the commercial at the beginning)
I hope you got a good belly laugh and a big smile out of this!
but I won't. I don't like winter that much. But, this song is soooooooo absolutely wonderful and sweet that I might actually consider a winter wedding. lol.
The Avett Brothers sing this song and they are wonderful musicians if you ask me. I know you didn't ask me...but let's just pretend you did. Plus, there is something about the way the lead singer sings his songs that makes me believe every word and that he thoroughly enjoys what he is doing in that very moment.
I started out my morning by telling Sparky that he needs to start searching for love songs. So this morning, while I got ready for work, Sparky diligently started to search for love songs. It was a great way to start the morning!
I thought I'd share with you my favorite love song choice that I found...not Sparky. This song is my favorite right now that will definitely be included in our wedding...considering we're probably more than likely going to have it at our home!
Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeroes - "Home"
I hope it brings a little jig to your step this morning!
