A Little Self Growth

Today, I am starting to read from cover to cover, Photoshop CS3 for Dummies. The other book I got in combination with today’s read is Canon EOS Digital Rebel XSi/450D For Dummies, which will be read in conjunction with my photoshop learning.

In college, one of the electives I chose one semester was Introduction to Photography. Photography has always been an interest of mine, whether it was/is looking at others creations or dreaming of my own; it was also something I never thought I could do well, understand, or afford. I did fairly mediocre in my class and deemed my photography skills as non-existent. I moved on to things that came easily for me.

A couple of years ago, after the photography itch lingered with me still, I finally saved up and bought a decent camera, the Cannon G9. I was so super excited and the picture taking effort was re-ignited. I love/loved my Cannon G9 and I took it practically everywhere with me. I am naturally pretty shy, especially in big groups (3 or more), so people are not really prevalent in my picture folder, but my dogs and nature are definitely subjects I’ve found that I am comfortable photographing at this point.

Well, Sparky totally knows my love for photography and my growing urge to learn about it and excel at it. Although I heart my Cannon G9, I’ve been drooling and dreaming of the Cannon Rebel or any other form of next level Digital SLR Camera. Anytime I stepped into a store that had an area of cameras, I would directly head that direction or secretly find my way there by “accident”...I think Sparky caught on to my tricks.

This past Christmas, Sparky surprised me with my very own Canon EOS Digital Rebel XSI kit and an extra zoom lens! He’s so supportive and believes that my love for photography is something I can do well with the right tools and PRACTICE.

So, I’m reading and will continue to read on tricks, tips, and how-to’s for my camera, photography, and photoshop. I've got my eye on the Exposure Digital Field Guide by Alan Hess.  There is so much to learn, but I’m so excited to finally realize one of my long time passions is something I can actually pursue...and enjoy! And I will and need to PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE. I’m hoping in this growth process with my photography that I might also be able to overcome some of my shyness in group settings...crossing my fingers!

The lessen I've learned is that if you love something, be patient with it.  The right time will come for your heart to truely be in it and then nothing can stop it from blossoming.

and maybe some day I might be able to come close to the gorgeousness and loveliness of Simply Bloom Photography...like some of their lovelies below.

Keep on Keepin on.

Girl, I can totally relate to what you are saying! I've always been interested in photography but just never really pursued it because I didn't think I could do it but it's such a passion of mine and I feel like it's either now or ever. I'm also really shy in big groups! Thank you for sharing this because it feels good to know I'm not alone. :)

You're totally not alone. I think the personality of someone who loves to photograph others is naturally to prefer being "hidden" behind the camera...so it makes sense that shyness in groups would be high on our personality traits. I've heard/read many photographers mention how shy they were when they started, but had to learn to come out of their shells a bit.

We can do it!!!
